Certification

GOLS vs GOTS: two certifications, different materials

GOLS and GOTS are both important in organic-material mattress marketing, but they address different material categories and requirements. The acronym alone is not enough; verify what is actually certified.

GOLS

Organic latex

GOLS is the Global Organic Latex Standard. For mattress shoppers, it is most relevant when a manufacturer claims organic latex.

GOTS

Organic textiles

GOTS is the Global Organic Textile Standard. In mattresses it commonly appears alongside claims about organic cotton or wool, and may apply at different product/manufacturing scopes.

Certification language can change and certificates can expire. When certification is a deciding factor, check the current manufacturer documentation or certifier database rather than relying only on an old review.

Eco Terra example

Eco Terra currently publishes GOLS-certified organic latex and GOTS-certified organic cotton and wool claims on its mattress page.
